Product Description

Mackenzie Clan

Clan Mackenzie from the original MacCoinneach and means “Son of Kenneth or Son of the Fair Bight one”. Kenneth lived in the 13th Century and was descended from a younger son of Gilleoin of the Aird. In 1267 Kenneth lived in Eilean Donan a castle at the mouth of Loch Duich.

At the start of the fifteenth century the Earldom of Ross came, through marriage, into the hands of the powerful family of MacDonald, who owned vast property on the west of Scotland and called themselves, at first without the authority of the king, Lords of the Isles. In this way the Mackenzies became vassals, not of their kinsmen the Earls of Ross but of the MacDonalds.

This is a short extract from the full Clan history which accompanies each of our flags. Presented on fine art paper, your Clan history can be displayed with pride.
